This is a problem Missy Wizeone is having on her laptop, while away down south at school.

She says she opens IE and it goes nuts, opening up 40, 50 or 60 times before she can 'end program' or shut it down.

She thought she might have a virus or something so I had her run the antivirus and malwarebytes but there were no detected problems.

Aside from going to FireFox, anyone have any clues what to do?

Sure sounds like the browser is hijacked by some type of virus..
Not uncommon for whatever anti-virus software to not find it.

I have had several that Norton or McAfee could not recognize.

Tell her to try a system restore back to a date before the problem started.

Re: Problem with IE7 running MS Vista.

I had this happen to me on Windows XP. Can't remember the cure though . I know it was so bad I would half to shut the computer off by the power button. I would check the pop up blocker, that may be the problem. At worst try to return the computer to an ealier working date, as Gary mentioned.

You shouldn't half to have the computer online to open the IE and change any settings on the pop up blocker. If I can remember the fix I'll let ya know.

It turns out that this problem only happens, after she has been in 'FaceBook' and when she closes out of IE, not when she opens it.

Has she cleaned up old cookies and browser history?
Do that and empty recycle bin...if that does not help then system restore next.

No luck with restore then i would format and reinstall Vista.
Does she have a partitioned drive with a restore image? If not the laptop should have come with the original restore disc.

Being IE is built into the operating system there is no easy way to just uninstall it and reinstall...

We just picked her up from the Airport, coming home for Christmas. She has her laptop with here so I will try these things.

She/We were lucky. They cancelled many flights that were due after hers. We also just heard that they closed the whole airport, but she is safetly at home.

Wizeone and Gary H NC are both very computer savvy and will sort it out for sure.

On a side note---- jaxnjil I loaded and ran the regsoft cleaner and it shows 914 problems!!!!!!

Is this normal for a first scan ????

Do I have to go through them all and uncheck some of the boxes?????

My computer savvy is low so I appreciate all the help I can get.

Bart,I have seen worse with those programs. Does it give you a tab to click to fix or repair all? If so it should not hurt anything to let it fix the problems found.

It has a "Fix All" button. It just seems like an awful lot of repairs.

I would hate to repair all and end up with nothing.

Bart looks like gary got you going. just like he said but one othe thing. if you stay loged on to the sight when you check in and out you will loose your cookie and have to log on to the sight the first time you come back after you run the CC program. not a problem, just wanted to let you know thats normal.
