Problem with Johnson 2.5

I was recently given a nonrunning 2 cycle Johnson 2.5, Model # J3RCCM, Serial # 7623311. I was told it had been running but froze up. So far I've discovered the rotor and pistons move but lock up periodically. Also, there was no lubricant in the lower unit. I'd like to get it running if possible. Any suggestions?

Re: Problem with Johnson 2.5

JZwerg..... Perhaps it is not the powerhead that is seizing up. Since the lower unit has no lube, I would suggest that you drop the lower unit, then double check the suspected powerhead problem. It may very well be that the sweizing is a problem within the lower unit. Regardless of what may be seized, the lower unit will need to be dismantled and inspected, repaired if needed, and have new seals installed. Let us know what you find.

Dropped lower unit. Dirty, but O.K. I don't know what year the motor is. Can you help? Is it a big deal to remove the powerhead? Jim
