My 2005 50 hp mercury outboard has quit peeing. No obvious obstruction and the hose is still attached under the hood. Anything else I should check? 50 mile drive to the dealer so I hate to take it in.

Re: Problem with New Merc

My telltale stream is regularly stopping. Usually minor obstruction. Before taking it in, I'd take off the rubber hose and blow through it. But like the other guy said, if that didn't do it, I'd take it to the dealer. Cooling system is not something to mess with.

By the way, I put a water pressure gauge in my large outboard so that (1) I wouldn't have to worry if the telltale quit working and (2) I wouldn't notice anyway because now instead of glancing back "all the time", I just glance at the gauge on the dash. It's usually an easy DIY, or you might ask the dealer when you take it in.

Took it in this morning and it was a minor blockage in the tell-tale line. They showed me a safe way to blow it out in the future.
