I just replaced the Fuel pump on my 1977 115 Evinrude V4 it starts up Great and runs nice and smooth at High RPM's. But when I put it into gear it just dies. Seems to be starving for fuel. Could the jets in the carbs be dirty?? If so How could I clean them up. The motor was rebuilt just last season and is a great runner usually. Just tried to fix leaky fuel pump.
I appreciate any help.

Armand

OK Armand...tell us a little more about the leaky fuel pump. Where was the leak and what did you do to fix it? Did the problem start after the "fix"?

Re: Problems Getting fuel to cylenders

Hi Capt. Well The leak was from the small hold in the back of the fuel pump on top. So I rebuilt it and finally ended up buying a complete new pump. Now I have a problem that started since the fuel pump dilemma. The motor will start and run nice and smooth out of the water on the Muffs. However when I put it in the water and try to excellerate in gear it just dies out. I removed the carborators and cleaned them out. I found a piece of silicone in the area that goes to the high speak port. I removed it and I'm waiting to try it out again. HOpefully tomorrow. I pray it works now.

Armand

Since the problem started after you worked on it, something you did (or didn't do) is part of the problem. Just what exactly did you do to the carbs when you had them off? Sounds like the carbs need to come off again for a THOROUGH cleaning/rebuild. Dismantle the carbs and clean the jets and orifices with carb cleaner and compressed air and install a rebuild kit. Set the floats and idle mixture adjustment (if there is one) to the manual specs and synchronize the carb linkage with the ignition advance linkage. Go to the bottom of this web page and order a manual for your engine.
