I have a '00 bass tracker 16.5 alum. boat. I purchased it used. I have had problems w/the switches on the console that control nav lights, bilge , acc, etc. The nav lights on the console(tach, speedo, gas) would light up on occasion, but would turn off. The running lights would work about the same. So, I checked all the wires under the console. They were corroded at the harnesses.I bypassed the harnesses using heat shrink at the connections. I also cleaned the fuse box and sprayed CorrosionX HD , then reattatched the fuse box. The problem is, it still has not fixed the problem. The nav lights on the console came on, but went off. The running lights never came on. Do I have a ground problem?

Re: problems w/ console wires

On most instruments there is no connection for a ground specifically for the lamps. So when the lights die if your instruments are still working your ground is probably OK. Easy enough to check, when the lights go out do a continuity test between ground and the lamp, 0 or close to 0 ohms is what you are looking for.

I think I might be looking for the 12V coming from each individual switch to run those accesories and lamps.
