Problems with Leaking Intake Manifold and Gasket

I have visible signs of rust around the intake manifold. If there's a leak on this part because of the developing rust and a possible leak on the gasket, what kind of engine problems would develop? Thanks.

I have an OMC 5.0L and just replaced mine, problems I saw was water from the valve cover breathers and milky oil in the valve covers slowly progressing to the crankcase. Of course there were starting issues after running for a while as well as loss of power

So, if you pour 2 gallons of water on top of the engine, water will seap into the intake manifod and will eventually flow into the crankcase. Maybe that's what happened when I forgot to close the engine hatch and it rained that evening. And it will also cause loses of power. Thanks.

If you are talking about exterior; any un-painted metal will rust.
Is it the exposed mating surface on the head? No problem.
