Re: Products/techniques for frozen head bolts

How many bolt shafts are left holding it on? What engine is this? Try to find somewhere on the head where you can whack it with a wood block that won't break something. Avoid prying on the gasket surface or you will mess it up. Be careful not to enlarge the bolt hole too much. However, if you do they can be rewelded and redrilled at a competent head machine shop. If you have to, drill all the way down but not into, the block. Then you can remove the head and work on drilling the studs out of the block as a separate task.

Success at last. I got a carbide bit for my die grinder to sort out my drill bit mishap! drilled the others slightly further and with some persuasion it decided to let go. the amazing thing is it is in good condition inside. no corrosion anywhere except on the head bolts!!!
now i can weld nuts to whats left of the bolts and remove.
Thanks for all the advice jimd, rodbolt and others. all this patience i have gained should do me well in the fishing season...
