Re: Project Boat-COMPLETE and SOLD!!!!

Thanks for all of the compliments folks.

"Craftsman", from you Mr. Schematic, I'm flattered. By the way Schematic, and THANKS to you, all of the switches in the control panel have telltale LED lights to let me know when things are "ON".

Lets's just say, I was "determined". I had plenty of down "staring at" time to comtemplate my next moves during weekday evenings.

Here in AZ, it got so hot (120 DEGREES F. PLUS) in the garage that staring at it was about all I could muster.

There were no SET "plans". Just allot of boat show and showroom "snooping" to see what I liked and didn't, on the new ones. Plus, allot of walking around in the blank hull to figure out what I would like and where.

That's the beauty of designing your own.

I'm scared to death to put her in the water next week to see how she goes. Wish me luck!!!

Great job D Johns!

You could run over the Iraqi navy with it!

You put alot of care into the restoration. I'm with the others, if it runs well keep it. Why do you want to part with if after all of that work?

Well blow me down with a feather! I would swear those are two different boats. I really like the layout... Its almost a cross between center console and a conventional type a thing. Like the rest say, how can you sell it after all that? Unless its all part of your scheme to find that perfect boat. I have been spending some quality time working on my boat, that which I would like to keep but if there was a good price I would let it go and get another that was more fitting to me (within a few days!)
Nice work!
Craig

All,

Thanks, again, for the votes of confidence.

Actually, it did almost become a center console. There is a nice little tube running down the center of the boat that I could have used, for rigging, to make a perfect CC. I used it for the front livewell plumbing.

But, I wanted to build something that would easily sell, in this neck of the woods. There are allot of midwestern transplants here.

The next proposed "project" is a Boston Whaler-Montauk. I've "re-done" one for my dad. The next one is mine-"forever".

I can see JB smiling! :D :D

Wish me luck. "On the hunt", for a nice BWM!

Success!!!

Took it out today with my son. Started right up, ran like a crossflow V-4 should. Turned 5400 rpm at WOT registering 40.2 mph. (GPS)

Everything worked as planned-no surprises. That's a good thing. Launched well, drove on the trailer. The trailer pulled well-again, no surprises.

It was a beautiful day here in AZ. 70 degrees, not a cloud within 300 miles. We left the lake (Saguaro) before all the "nuts" showed up.

Thanks all, for all of your encouragement throughout the process of resurecting the old, ("tin boat").

REALLY REALLY nice boat djohns19, congratulations.

Very nice internal desing too, and its difficult to do. Just curious to know, which propeller do you have ? What does the boat weigh without motor, and what is the with ( beam ? ) I am going to fit a 1991 115 HP V4 to my 17´ runabout that weighs 400 lbs dry and have to choose a propeller. Which glue did you use for the nice carpet job ?

G DANE,

Thanks. I'm running a 13-1/4" X 17". I could probably turn a 19" as I expect your boat could with a 115.

The hull weighs about 650 pounds. The beam is 84" at the widest point.

I used standard (waterproof) porch and deck carpet adhesive for the carpet.

Re: Project Boat-COMPLETE and SOLD!!!!

Thanks for the info !!

I was hoping for a 21" due to the low weight - hull is a deep-v, 80" beam. Motor came off a 19´heavy walkaround and it came with a brand new 15" Solas SST prop, i´l have to find someone to swap with if possible - probably best in some propshop.

12'r,

Thanks, I think she's "going on the block" next week.

Honey (wife) say's no, I say yes. Uncle Sam (IRS) was very "unkind" to me this year. Can't figure it-made less-pay more! :( I guess I'm one of those "unlucky slugs' that fall in the middle.

Project number 5 may be a bit down the road.

Wish me luck-hunting!

Thanks again.

djohns-hey, I posted a question to you on another post about the steering console you took out of your boat. If you still have it, I would be interested in it.
Please let me know.
