I hope everyone is doing well. Sorry for sort of falling off the radar, but about a month ago my best buddy and chief engineer of the boat Charlie passed away. He was just a bit over two years old and it was totally unexpected. I took it really hard and didn't feel much like working on the boat for a while. I have slowly started to get back too it. The first time without him in the shop really sucked. Funny how we get attached to the little guys!


But I have started up again and have made a lot of progress. Just sorry he doesn't get to take the maiden voyage. I miss my buddy but I know he would want me to get her in the water! I'll try to get my thread caught up in the next week or so.

Oh man, Always sorry to hear about that.

I presume you're uploading straight from a phone or tablet. I don't know how to help with that. It took me for ever to figure out which way was up with my phone. Now I always upload them to my computer, fix it there and then upload it. I hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of rotating it and re-uploading it. Here it is

Im so sorry for your loss , they take a chunk of our hearts with them , i never cried as hard when a human in my life has died compared to dogs .. not sure why have never been able to grasp it , it gets better with time but never goes away ...
I will say this i was hesitant after losing mine to get a new one till something in my head said there is another dog out there that needs to feel the love i had been shown by the first one and within a week i found one or i should say she found me and helped whole family out of funk.

Yea, I hear ya Arch! They become family and are mostly better than some of the family. My good ole boy needs picked up and carried out side now and then back in. The coolest guy! Just whines and barks every single time I come home. Just slaps a smile on my face he does.

Thank you for your thoughts. He was a young guy and you just don't expect to go to work on a nice day and come home and he isn't there anymore. I have been quietly making progress, I'll try to get the thread caught up.

I broke down and bought a parts washer. I also washed them in an acid that is made for cleaning tanks and trailers on tractor trailers. Works well for removing the corrosion you can't get to with abrasives.

There was a lot of pitting on the bottom of the connection for the exhaust bellows, so I filled it with some JB Weld. Hopefully I will get a good seal out of it now.

I pretty much ordered most of the consumable parts for the gimbal assembly. This drive is a 67-69, so most of the parts are off ebay, NOS.

I also worked on putting spar varnish over the top of the epoxy on the seat bases some.

I'm having the bow light rechromed.....don't ask how much!

I have also been working on the instrument panel, and dash layout.

I sanded everything down and cleaned it up for painting. I etched / sealed it with varaiprime from DuPont then top coated it with a single stage DuPont urethane.

I also cleaned up and painted the steering wheel. I used that Krylon plastic paint, went on nice I will be interested in how it holds up.

It took some doing putting it all back together, but having the old stuff cleaned up and painted made it a lot nicer. You have to be methodical, miss a step and you have to go backwards!

New upper steering seals and bearing
Lower steering pin bearing and seals
Tilt / trim limit switch (not used in later models and damn hard to find)
New gimbal bearing and forward seal. The plastic housing and snap ring are also unique to this model. The snap ring is a bear!

New seal where the cooling line comes through the gimbal housing.
New shift shaft seal, arm and set screw (weird odd ball thing not a typical one)

And the assembled gimbal.....complete with all new hydraulic lines. there we are lot more parts, these are kind of the highlights.
