I am running a Solas aluminum Amita 3 at 12" 17p. I have a very similar boat to you. I have a 2001 Lowe 170se. 17ft. 50hp Johnson 2cyl. I changed my prop when I got the boat from the standard 15p. I never checked the speed with the 15 pitch, but I am currently getting 32mph at WOT. Plenty fast for me, and hole shot is not bad at all. Motor full down tilt then up slowly to one line below level at trim. I don't know the RPM as my tach has been dead since I purchased the boat used in July of this year. I have a new system check tach from Faria on the way. Couldn't get the exact color match to the Lowe gauges which was beige with black trim ring, so I will have a mismatched gauge in black trim with white face. Faria wanted $50 more than new just to fix the tach portion as all the system check was working fine, and that didn't even count the shipping costs back and forth. Obviously they don't really want to repair their own products as I purchased the brand new system tach for $89.00 even with free shipping from Great Lakes Skipper on E bay.

It's nice of you to add to this subject but it is over a year old not likely followed by any of the contributors.
I did a quick calculation 32 mph with a 17" prop and guessing 13% slip your rpm is about 5500.
