Is this how this is supposed to be set up? I have never seen a prop so close to the anode, nor an anode with a notch cut out for the prop????

Doesn't seem right to me - Thanks for your input

Re: Prop & Anode

Merc has 3 anodes. one with a fin, one with an extended fin (that sits farther back) and one that is flat.

it looks like someone put a larger prop and simply trimmed the anode. that is also very common practice.

Re: Prop & Anode

Props with significant 'rake' will hit the standard fin anode. That seems to be the case here. You could use as is or switch to one of the alternate anodes as Scott suggested.

Yep, grinding a bit away from the tab is common practice when a huge rake is found on a prop. There are even special tabs made and sold to accommodate props like that but that looks fine.

Note the setback. If you shop for anodes on-line, you'll see numerous options.

I have one of these and still had to notch it to get my 24P Ballistic XL to clear it on my little 90 Merc. Didn't notice any change in the performance of it.
