Re: prop for 150 gt

winns, i was thinking the same thing. I figure with me alone it should be fine, but for skiing i'll use the 21 pitch. P.S. i lost the hydrofoil i think for good. Have you ever tried a raker, i was wondering how they handle. thanks

Re: prop for 150 gt

I run a Raker 14 1/2 X 22 on an '87 GT150 on a Ranger 375V with jackplate...RPMs @ 5200-5300 runs around 55. My experience is the Raker handles exceptionally well. I had an unusual opportunity to speak with one of the guys that actually did design work on the Raker and he told me that the prop was matched for the 150 and that staying with it would be the best thing to do. I am sure he was a little biased (grin) however I have to agree with him having tried other props...and yep...back to the raker and happy with it.

Re: prop for 150 gt

alright fellas, I finaaly got a 24p raker and i can't believe the bow lift, my rpm's are around 5300 and i'm getting 55+ mph so i think i'm done playing with props for the time being, getting out of the hole it blows out if i punch it to hard so i'll get some plugs for the exhaust holes and test that. thanks for all your help

You don't want any lower RPM than 5500 on that engine...
5300 isn't terrible, but 5500 would be best.

Re: prop for 150 gt

hey LubeDude, your getting a good hole shot with a 25" prop? I have a 13 1/2" x 25 Renagade on a Johnson 200 GT and I'm trying to get a better hole shot for skiing. What else could I try? Or do you think this prop should work fine?

Dz, you probably need to lower the pitch quite a bit when pulling skiers to improve your hole shot.

I'd recommend a 21P, or a hydrofoil....(smart tabs will work also). If you can talk your marina guy into letting you test a few, go for it...

How is the hole shot when not pulling skiers?

Vent the prop....better hole-shot, keep your top-end, and ya don't need a foil.
Sometimes we look beyond the simple things.....
AND...keep the R's up....that's a GT, not a standard 150. Cross-flow, yes, alot less power, no...
DzBimmer, which Renagade...Bass, or Offshore version? I would assume Bass?

Walleye, can i get that raker 24p reduced to a 23p, it has some dings on the edges and it blows out a little on the holeshot so i was able to plug one the holes with a cap but it didn't change much, the holes are 7/16. thanks

Re: prop for 150 gt

Yes, you can have the pitch reduced, BUT, when you "lower" the pitch of a manufactured size, you also "lower" the efficiency.
Best-case situation would be to have slightly too low of pitch and have to "add" some...when you go in that direction, the slip tends to drop and efficiency goes up.
First, I would consider sending the prop to Boger's for plugs and have the blades thinned down slightly.
