I have a 70hp 1980 evenrude with factory prop on it
I don't know squat about props, and do not know what pitch I have.
My problem is when the boat is loaded with equipment and fuel And 1-2 fishing buddies it takes a long time to plane out (I estimate 30-50 seconds maybe longer) a guy told me to change the prop but I don't know where to begin. when unloaded it gets up fast @ 10 seconds
Any Suggestions

Do you know your current Wide open throttle RPM's? You will need to know that and the current pitch of your prop (Will be stamped on the prop hub) for us to help.

Re: Prop info requested

Props are listed by diameter, then pitch, like 10 X 12 for example. Lowering pitch generally raises the thrust, lowers the top end, increases RPM at wot and gets you out of the hole faster, all other things being equal.

The OMC props have a part number [and sometimes the size] stamped on the engine end of the hub, so you have to remove the prop to see it. There is a goodly amount of propeller information on the propelller forum here.

Re: Prop info requested

One more question, Is there such a thing as a good top end prop and good hole shot prop....doesnt have to be the best at either, but a good all around would be nice
