Have an oppurtunity to pick up a SS prop for my 115 Yamaha. Prop has been modified by having a shop sharpen the leading edges and shaving some material off the back side of each blade. Prop has also been balanced. Question is, what affect will these mods have on the prop performance. Seller got the prop second hand and doesn't know what issue the original owner was trying to correct, improve, etc.

Thanks.

Ayuh,.... That's known as "Blueprintin' " the prop,....

It should behave as the pitch states on it, just atad more efficiently,...

+1 I've been told by a reputable prop guy that a balanced and blue printed prop can turn as easy as a prop that is one 1" of pitch less. In this process they also check that each blade has the same amount of pitch, rake, cup and so on and adjust any blades that are out of spec. This ensures the prop runs true.

A balance and blueprint job is only as good as the guy that did it.

Thanks guys. Was just wanting to make sure he wasn't trying to correct a problem. Thanks for the info.

Re: Prop Mods

Now you know why the "original" owner sold it.

If he was happy with the modifications and performance, he'd still have it.
