I'm looking to upgrade my aluminum 3 blade (14x23) to an aluminum 4 blade prop. Boat is an 18' open bow, 2008 model with a merc 4.3L and deep vee hull. What manufacturer would be recomended that makes a high quality aluminum prop at reasonable cost. I was contemplating a prop by Solas. Anybody with first hand knowledge and experience care to share their views.

Re: Prop Recomendations

Before selecting a prop you should get us your present max rpm and speed.
remind us of your prop size.
I have no personal experience with the Solas props but It appears they are good from what I have seen on here.Someone may be along to suggest a specific model. The Turning Point Hustler is a good prop that delivers close to stainless performance at aluminum prices. We have had a number of replys with excellent results.

4400 rpm at 46 mph on a 14x23 3 blade aluminum mercury black max prop with boat at 75% weigh capacity. Boat is rated for about 48 mph top speed. I'm not looking for top end speed, more interested in perfromace to get on plane quicker and at slower speeds for watersports..wake boards, tubes, and skiers.

Re: Prop Recomendations

No question a 4 blade will help hole shot, stay on plane at lower power
and handle better. It will be slower at top end. Usually reccomended to drop an inch in pitch when going to a 4 bld.
I see the solas amita being reccomended,
