Hello Iboats!

So this weekend in FL was abosolutley beautiful Spent all weekend on the boat. And did some experimenting. I put a friends 19 pitch prop on mine just top see how it ran, it was great! So now I just "have to have" a new prop.;)
The boat deserves a spirng present, right? Really the motor was alot happier. Everything perfect.

BUt unfortunaley as some of us know money is kinda tight I really can't afford a SS right now, BUt I can get an aluminium one now.
So does anyone know or have a recomendation on a really good aluminum prop, that will give close performance.

Most of the time it is just me and my girl on the boat.

Thanks guys

Oh yea motor is Yamaha f100

Re: Prop selection ?

Need to know your present prop size and the max rpm and speed.
Do you know the max rated rpm?The motor must operate within it proper rpm range.

Re: Prop selection ?

The pros will help shortly, I'm sure, in the meantime, check craigslist.org
I have had luck there, even finding new ones. Plus, as I'm sure you know, it is always good to have a spare!;)
and as the first response said, you need the specs on your current prop before anyone can really help.

Re: Prop selection ?

Oops! Sorry bout that, guess that would help.
Currently running a 13 1\4X16 SS prop not sure of the brand. At WOT it turns bout 6300rpm. That is above RPM range. Should be between 5000 and 6000.
With the 19 pitch this wknd I was turning about 5600 or 5700rpm. And I picked up about 4 mph on gps. I don't see WOT much but in just cruising the motor seemed really happy.
Thanks guys.

Re: Prop selection ?

Usually they try to prop the 4 strokes at their max rpm. Nothing wrong with the 19 specs but you may find it sluggish with a load.
Changing material throws in more variables so can be difficult to predict
results. You might look at the Turning Point Hustler at about $127 W hub.
Close to stainless performance at Al. prices.

Re: Prop selection ?

Thanks for the replies.

I know it might be a bit sluggish with a heavy load,, but most times it is just the two of us on the boat anyway and I will still have my 16 pitch ss for watersports.

I am still looking around for a used ss one if I can find it, but I may take a chance on the turning point. Others have said good things about it as well.
And it is a whole lot cheaper, which helps.

Re: Prop selection ?

I would go with a 19, MAYBE even a 21. And there is no real difference between alummium and SS. just price.
the higher pitch will give better fuel economy.

The aluminum will most likely perform the same as the SS in your case. Aluminum will tend to flex but that really will not happen untill you reach the 50mph point (give or take a little) The only thing you will gain with the SS is durability, especially in Florida with all the sand. The 19 pitch sounds about right, try to keep rmp @ wot from 5800 to 6000 on that motor.
