prop size help

I have a 9.9 johnson on a small fiberglas skipjack 10' 2 seater for my son. the problem is it will not plane with two people (sidebyside seating) Changing the carb seems to be too expensive verses the outcome. Can anyone suggest a prop change that will get this lil guy outta the water faster with two people??<br />Thanks

Gentle men - right, no tach, <br />no way to tell rpm's but I am sure this is the original prop. Any idea's on how to boost this craft out of the water better?

I think that you may just find that you can only get so much out of a small motor. I used to use a 14 footer with a 9.9, and with a few people she'd never plane.<br /><br />You might be able to change your set up to help you out. For example : Where are you sitting in the boat? (middle, back, one person in each, one in front one in back etc) Where is you gas tank? Fuel weighs a lot and by moving it to the front for example you may be able to plane. Do you have a hydrofoil? I'm not sure if they make them for that small a motor, but they do help you plane at a lower speed.

You could also add some weight to the bow.....when I boat by myself I occasionally ad some cinder blocks up in the bow for a better weight balance.

Thanks for the reply,tried about everything you mentioned, tank up front. this is a two seater(side by) so can't move any more wt. 9.9 is as big as i can go, my son is only 13. any recomandation for a different prop?

Have you looked into Smart tabs????<br />They will help you more over-all than any foil can do.

I was thinking of suggesting that kenny, but arent they like $150, I only mention it because in the first post cost seems to be a consideration.<br /><br />EDIT: although I have no idea how much a carb swap would cost, considering its most likely more than just a simple carb switch. Smart tabs would still be less expensive. my bad

Thanks for the suggestions, from the replies,no one is talking about a different prop to help this situation. Currently have a 9 1/4 X 8 . I will look into the smart tabs for cost.<br />Thanks again
