Re: Propeller for Merc. 50 HP 4 stroke

when I went through all of this, I remember thinking how sensitive my 50EFI was to being correctly propped. I tried a stilletto 12-pitch prop and found it to be lousy for my application. they have a very good reputation but it didn't give me rpms or performance. I had the best luck with the cleaver-style large blade stainless props, mercury vengeance style.

My hull is heavy, dented, and not overly efficient, but with a #12 pitch stainless my wife and her sister could pull my 220lb self out of the hole on a pair of waterskis. Those motors are very smooth and efficient, and I think you'll be happy with them once you get the correct prop on there. Even correctly propped mine was no speed demon, I think I could top out at about 30-31mph.

good luck

Yeah, my 60 is very smooth and quiet and amazing on gas...in that respect I love it! In fairness, my 16.5' Alumacraft is heavy...3 adults, 3 batteries, trolling motor, 2 anchors, etc. etc......I am asking a lot from it! In my case my top end is ok at 30 with 3 people on. I just need to find the prop that gets me out of the hole and in the correct rpm range. I am hoping this 4 blade solas amita has the meat to get me out of the hole and enough slip to keep in the rpm range...I would be happy with 57-5800. If this does not work, I may go to a SS 12" pitch prop and/or raise the motor one notch. Damn this is getting expensive! :D

Very interesting, I have a new smokercraft pro angler xl as well. It is slow out of the hole, 60 to 90 sec. 11 in prop by 12 pitch, 5000 t0 5200 rpm. Dealer is suggesting changing pitch to 9. I have gotten 26 mph out of it with 2 adults and fishing gear.
