Re: Proper Air Pressure

Since you didn't list what model it is all I can offer is the owners manual that google quickly found on Achilles website.

You must have a pressure gauge. There is no guessing to be done as what you think the pressure is and what the pressure really is are two different things. I can come close to what the gauge reads now by feel, but am often still off. Use a gauge!

Re: Proper Air Pressure

Achilles recommends max 2.8 psi on tubes & keel. No issue toping to 3.5 psi, but during plain summer excessive heat, that sib will be over inflated. 3.0 psi all year round will be more than opt for excellent water displacement.

Agree, and my air floor is 9psi.

The boat will not lose pressure integrity until it reaches 7 PSI or greater. It's not a problem...

The floor is another issue. Achilles uses a hypalon air floor and it will blow apart at around 10 PSI or greater. The seams on the glued Hypalon can't handle the pressure as well as a new PVC air deck. However, the PVC air decks become problamatic after 6 or 7 years so...

Re: Proper Air Pressure

If Achilles states 2.8 PSi that is your best bet. They test their boats and know what is a safe and proper operating pressure for their boats. Over inflating the boat can cause potentially cause issues down the line. I would be wary of significantly over inflating your boat as some have suggested.

You will never hear a "bang" with a 0.2 psi overinflation issue, all boats are generally inflated to 3.0-3.5 psi when in use, when boats are factory tested for air leaks, are inflated to at least 5 psi for 48 hours, some Italian manufacturers test them to 10 psi...
