To jspringator: The parts manual for your motor says the cut length of your cord is 72-1/4".

The cord needs to be cut from part number 316705 which is 7/32 or #7 cord.

Be sure that you are in neutral and that the locking lever is disengaged when starting.

Thanks Ezeke. I broke out the manual after I posted this and discovered there is a timing mark on the starter. If the timing marks line up, I'm OK. If not, I've found my problem. For those replacing their ropes, they say start it a few times to work the stiffness out of the rope before relying on the timing marks.

Timing mark is off. Ordered new rope. I'm hoping this will make a big difference.
