I am getting water intrusion in to the gas tank. I understand that the floor has to be cut away to gain access the the tank. What can I expect when I go to remove the tank? Will the factory tank be glassed in or will it be simply mounted with hardware? The current tank is aluminum, as I try to price replacement tanks (plastic) should I be looking at the ones that fit the angle of the hull on the bottom or would it be the square bottom ones? Anyone have experience with getting welding done on aluminum tanks? A friend of mine was getting quotes of a $100 an inch for aluminum welding on the seams of his pontoon boat. Wouldn't take long at those prices to justify a new plastic tank.

Thanx,
Bill

Im sure others will chime in, but I would avoid welding on a used fuel cell out of fear that I could not remove all the vapor from the tank...kaboom

Mine was just covered with the plywood floor and sat tight to the stringers. there was some expanding foam poured around it though, a putty knife made quick work of that.

$100 an inch holy cow!!! That is HIGH!!! I would shop around for someone in a shop and do not mention marine ;) that's when the prices go up.

Welding a fuel tank is no problem .......... it just gets water inside to eliminate the fumes.... a good welder would not flinch at that.
