Pulling the flywheel

I have 1975 johnson 6hp and i want to remove the flywheel tomorrow, i noticed a cap that goes around the flywheel. Can this cap be removed? How do you remove it? Thanks

remove the nut and the cover. Under the cover you should find three threaded holes to which you can bolt a harmonic balancer puller.

the thread size for the screws is 1/4 x 20 < 2" long with 7/8" threaded is fine >...get some grade 8's along with some grade 8 washers...if you haven't already google leeroysramblings as he probably has this in his 6 hp. section

+1 on the GRADE 8 bolts and washers. You should be able to find them at any lowes/HD. Here are some handy links that can walk you through the job. You can get any routine parts you may need right here at iboats. Good luck. Holler if you get stuck.
