When I picked up my new boat I noticed the dealer had put a nasty scratch on the side of the motor. I don't know what the piece is called, but its below the engine cowling and above the lower unit. Its the part of the motor that the rigging hose attaches to.

The dealer said they have to pull the powerhead to remove the piece to replace it. I'm concerned about pulling the powerhead on a motor with 12 hours on it. It seems like it may compromise something later on.

The dealer has assured me that pulling the PH isn't that big a deal and is done all the time.

Am I crazy for being so leary of them pulling a brand new engine apart?

nope, I do it weekly.
if the techs are competent and decently trained its no worries.
look for the four stroke systems or advanced 4 stroke systems certificate on their yamaha school diploma.it will be a gold sticker, one of 6 to 7.
mine has 7 gold stickers.
