Pulsating jolts when stopping.

Hi, I have a technical support question. I just replaced my brake assembly (Titan Galphorite Free-back Hyd. Brake-10 inch) on a 4yr old 3000lb boat trailer with surge actuator. The boat is about 2500lbs. When braking, it would slow down normally at first, but right before the full stop, it would pulsate when I ease off the brake pedal. It would feel like the suv is being hit from the rear 3 or 4 times until full stop. I already re-bled the fluid (no bubbles) and tightened up the drums a few more licks. Please advise what this could be. When I stick the pin into the anti reverse hole, thus disabling brakes, it stops without the jolting. Thanks in advance.

There is a shock inside the coupler that sounds like its gone junk. Two bolts, easy to change. Pull it out and have a look at it, it should be very stiff to move.

Recheck you brakes again too... I had a similar issue where mine started to chatter when braking. I adjusted my brakes until the wheel wouldn't spin and backed off the adjust until they slight dragged on the drum. Cured my chatter problem.

Also check for grease on the brake linings.

Years ago, I had the same problem on a boat/trailer similar to yours. THe above - adjusting the brakes - fixed the problem. There was too much travel on the master cylinder, and when you hit the brakes, they would slam hard, in the same way you would slam the brakes. Then when the boat let off, it would start to osclillate....
