Pulse from motor to tachometer?

I have a 1997 Johnson 115 SPL. The pules is 12 so I set the tach at 6p.

My question is can the pules from the stator be wrong and make the tach read low at high rpm but not at low rpm?

If this can happen what can be done to find out?

Dunno for certain but I'd try changing the setting on the switch behind the tach.

Not really, your motor calls for a 12 pole setting, same as 6 pulse. Check your wiring.
