The oversteer in no wake is normal you just need to make smaller steering inputs. It gets worse the slower you go. you'll get used to it. As for the gasbreather The only way to find out is to go back out on your lake and try it out.
good luck.

I still have problems with the engine stalling if I try running it over 3krpm. It was not the vent, at lease it does not appear to be the problem. It maybe something to do with the carberator or the water separator gas filter. I am sure it has not been changed since last year.

Now I need to find a place to get OMC parts. Any suggestions on spark plug wires and plugs that hold up well?

Thanks

I'm just curious, do most people need an engine hoist to remove/install their Cobra outdrive? I am able to handle my outdrive no problem. I sometimes need a helper to guide the driveshaft/u-joints. Am i missing something here, or do i not know my own strength?

The saga continues,, Cleaned fire suppression air breather and carb, check wires and spark plug. Notice they were Champions. Took out and still can not go over 3k rpms in gear, without engine cutting out. I thought it was gas starving, but now I am not sure. I noticed that the fuel gauge would deflect down, like shutting of key, and then jump back. The other gauges do not change, accept the tach of course. I was surprised that this gauge deflection corresponded to the engine problem. How can they be related. Any pointers , suggestions would be appreciated.

OMC parts can be obtained from local Johnson/Evinrude dealers, or several well-stocked internet sites, like www.dougrussell.com.

McKenzie, have you tried Tough Man competitions?
Handling 110 pounds of awkward, angled metal single-handed is not easy for most guys.

Sounds like a typical automobile engine troubleshooting checklist is now in order. Timing/plug gap/distributor/.....

Update: had boat serviced for winter, plus pulled lower and did checks. They found that
the drive gear was pointed and not flat on top. This meant that a good wack on something could shear them. So $750 later a new gear was installed.

Stalling problems continued. After two trips to service center, they found the problem. The gas feed to the fuel pump had a crack under the upper bend. When sucking lots of full, it would get air and starve out the engine, since this is negative feed it never showed a leak.

Continued problems with RPMS dropping while triming. Service center thinks it's a problem in the connectors. Will work on this next.

One Last item. Started fixing up boat, replacing both lounge seats and putting throatle control back to factory specs. Prior user changed it from pull to push for skiing. Since I have stalling problems when shifting between forward and reverse when docking, I want this back to original configuration. BUT, the manuals I have do not show the entire linkage settings. Just the description. I have the forward linkage that the cable connects too, but the linkage from that to the carb seems to be missing. But with a picture or diagram I am unsure what is missing. Any suggestion on where I can get the part and how it is installed?
