it is a 2006 outboard Johnson90hp . He ran it 4 years than got injured and it sat for 2 years. And all he did mostly just troll.

Just an FYI. Trolling is hard on a motor. Spark plugs load up and carbon deposits form on the pistons etc.

I'd also recommend doing a "decarb" with Seafoam also.

Guys, a 2006 outboard of that size is most likely to be fuel injected, so trolling shouldn't cause a problem.

If the gas has phase separated, pulling out the water/ethanol won't solve the problem. Ethanol, in addition to oxygenating the gas, raises the octane rating. If you lose the ethanol, the octane rating will drop to dangerous levels for the health of the pistons (pre-ignition).

I took the boat out on saturday and it went great at idle all the way to WOT. water pumped water just fine. I will probably change the fuel/water filter before i go again on saturday.

after i checked the fuel filter i decided to drain all 40 gal. of fuel from the boat and add new. I guess i will rest easier and not stressed about loosing the motor form crappy gas. I have plenty gas for the lawn mower and atv for a while. does it matter what octane i run in the 2005 johnson 90hp?

Yesterday I drained 75 gallons of old gas into cans and a 55 gal barrel and gave it away. .. I DO practice what I preach

I love it when good advice falls on deaf ears.

The recommended change interval for outboard motor impellers is every 3 years, a lot of people that know how to change their own change them once a year because it's cheap insurance. An impeller is about $20 and there's lot of vids on youtube that shows how to change one yourself.
