Less than a week ago I purchased a NEW Motorguide Digital trolling motor from this website. $1600.00 and it's DOA on arrival.
Don't start with the troubleshooting advice...This MotorGuide is defective.
Can't return it. Iboats sent me to Motorguide. Motorguide sent me to not so local dealer. Dealer(s) say take a hike, you didn't buy it from us. 10 phone calls later and I've made this circle two more times.
iboats refers me to motorguide, they refer me to a motorguide dealer...and....iboats IS a motorguide dealer!!

ALL I wanted was to EXHANGE a defective NEW item for another. Looks as if this is going to take WEEKS to resolve and I bet the MOST I get is a repaired or remanufactured unit and it'll probably get damaged in shipping...at my cost.

Just something to think about before dealing with iboats or motorguide.

AND.....YES.
If I get a call from iboats saying....
" You bought that defective motor from US less than a week ago. Please return it for EXCHANGE."
I'll be more than happy to tell about that as well.

Apologies, trolling motors have nothing to do with fishing. My mistake.

Brownies, If you have double checked everything on your end, then it would seam that there was a bad production run. I would suggest that you contact Iboats again, and calmly disscuss what can be done. I would ask for one more replacemet and if that doesn't work, I would ask for a refund. If they are un-cooperative, I would talk to my credit card company (if that's how you paid for it)they should be able to help.

Waterone1 is giving you some good advice. It might be easier and help keep the focus on your problem if you only deal with iboats. They have a well deserved reputation for outstanding customer support. And the FTC mandates the business that sells an item (that would be iboats) is responsible for the integrity of both the item and the transaction. You don't have to deal with the manf or the drop shipper if you don't want to, but I would suggest taking the path of least resistence, whatever you decide that is.

The only other thing I would insist on is that iboats send call tags (prepaid UPS shipping labels) to have UPS pick up the defective items. The only time you should be paying any shipping charges is if you decided to return a perfectly good item.

Re: Purchasing items from iboats WARNING!!

Not sure if I mentioned. Replacement is DOA as well. (different problem, but, still defective).
The reasons behind this purchase were carefully weighed. Lots of thought went into based on past experience with cable and RF/radio frequency models.
I've not called the CC company. That will be my LAST resort. Utmost professionalism is what others should hear on the other end of the phone.
I think going to the CC company is like going over a persons head and taking matters into you own hands. I detest that and any mention of that wouldn't be a threat. At that stage it would be my next phone call.
(and that considers I've now received two bad ones back to back).
The post was designed to get attention. "Hey, I don't want my money back, just want to be treated fairly". WHICH, I did not initially get.
Whether on not the post helped me to get from "not our problem" to "the best that could be asked for" or not, I don't know. As of right now, I am, however, EXTREMELY GRATEFULL to iboats.com for the way they handled the first exchange.
If they keep up the customer service on this second one?? Don't know yet.
I'm to the point of stopping on the motorguide attempts though. Don't want money back. Might ought to give Minnkota a try now though. and....no more digital technology. Cable control from here on out.
