Hi all;
I just bought a 1984 bayliner 17' Capri. It has a 90 horse Yamaha on it. After doing a model and serial number search online, I think what I have here is a 1990 90 horse/long shaft/elec. start/power trim motor.
The model number is 90ELTD
The Code is 6H1 L
The serial number is 475630
I need to know if I have interpreted this info correctly so I can order a shop manual for this motor. If someone could help me with this, that would be great. Also, I need to know if there are any known "issues" with this motor. Any recalls, technical service bulletins, etc?
This motor has been sitting for at least 2 years, maybe more. I want to give it a complete service before even trying to fire it up. Complete tune-up, change all fluids, new impeller, etc.
The PO had at least taken the battery out and put it in the garage, but when I pulled the caps off before charging, I found that the battery is very low on fluid, so I have not tried to charge it. I will get some distilled water and top it up and see if it will even take a charge. It may not; so what type and brand of batteries have you all had good success with?
Anything else I have not thought of? As a first-timer with my own boat, but having the mechanical background, I know how to get the work done, but I need to know what to do. I want to make this boat healthy and reliable and get her out on the sacramento delta for some fishing.
Thank you in advance;
George
