Re: Quadrajet have to change metering rods

Wow, pulled off the LU and pulled my impellor. Wow, nothing left to it :)

Well, hopefully tomorrow I'll get another and put the boat on the water and check to see how well the carb rebuild went. Hopefully I'll only have one more post in this thread.

The best way to check for power piston operation is to take a small screwdriver, the kind that clips to your shirt pocket; and stick it in the tube that sticks up on top of the carb in front of the primaries. If you hit the right spot you should be able to push the piston down and the spring will push it back up. After you are familiar with it start the engine and insert the screwdriver so that it rests on the valve. When you open the throttle quickly it should lift the screwdriver up for a second until it builds vacuum and pulls the valve back down.

Re: Quadrajet have to change metering rods

Hey, all, rebuilt the carb and just replaced the intake manifold since I noticed it was cracked around the thermostat housing when replacing the thermostat. The carb now runs much better, don't even notice a bog anymore at all. I guess the leaner needles and the home made power piston spring worked after all. Thanks for all the help. Now on to the fact that it over heats at idle and I just changed the impellor and thermostat.....
