question about Baja Bowriders

Hi guys.. I am looking at a 1991 Baja Islander.
From pics it looks in great shape.. has a 454 not sure whatr hP...
anyone have any experience with these.??

No personal experience, but there are several Baja owners here on the forum. They are nice looking boats for sure.

Baja are considered a decent production performance boat. The have a lot of deadrise (vee) so they are comfortable at higher speeds in rough water. I have read some complaints from new owners somewhere, I can't recall. Who knows though, that could be a really cranky guy with some nitpicky stuff.

I believe they have molded floors, so that should hold yup well and any nitpicky quality stuff from new is gonna be gone on a 15 YO boat. As long as the hull and power package are in decent shape (or you know what's wrong and are willing to deal with it), this really comes down to whether or not the boat fits the style of boating you want to do. I own a 1985 Baja sunsport bowrider. It has wood floors (yes, boats have floors! They support the decks) but they are still solid. I am very happy with mine. The Islander design uses the same hull as the sportboats from the deck down. I think you will be happy also...IF you give her a complete examination AND a sea trial ( test drive) before you buy. For me, no sea trial=no sale.

I'd make sure that there is a little lake chop, just to make sure that the boat is solid, make sure you tap around the transom and if you hear a hollow sound, chances are your dealing with some rot issues down the road
