Question about drive shaft needle bearing cleaning on 76' 25hp Evin

Actually 2 questions

1.I've managed to teardown the lower unit and removed the seals that I'm replacing. I don't really want to replace the needle bearing. Can I just clean it up and repack it? If so what's solvent should I use?

2.What should I look for in the pump housing that would lead me to replace it. I'd rather not spend $60-$70.

If the bearing isn't rusted, reuse it. Clean it with mineral spirits if it needs cleaning.

If the pump housing impeller cup isn't scored and the driveshaft hole isn't oblong... reuse it.

I'v used them in ruffer shape than that and they pumped ok, I have also gotten creative with a bit of JB weld and emery cloth to smooth things out a bit, if you do use jb weld or other fillers make sure not to plug that little hole in the housing.

The JB weld fix is intriguing. I may just do that. Any other tips on applying it? I would be afraid of any coming off and getting in the works.

Don't play with that thing (it's shot!).... install a complete water pump kit, housing, impeller, plate, grommet, etc.

Joe is right. If you want to risk burning the motor up use JB weld.

I'm not concerned with the price. I just don't want to risk screwing it up getting it out. I've been there before.
