Question about DSL and my laptop

I just got a free upgrade from qwest for my home DSL from 256/256 to 1.5mbps/900kbps service.

Problem is my laptop doesn't get more than 300kbps on download. I have tested this many different ways but looking to DSLreports as the benchmark.

I have an IBM T42 laptop with 1.5Gb Ram and the 802.11b wireless connection.

My wife has an HP laptop that can achieve a realistic 1.3+mbps download using the same test. Her laptop has the 802.11G wireless but I find it hard to believe that the 11B is limiting my download that much.

Anyone out there have any clue as to what I should be looking at or is the 11B wireless limiting me??

I did a tweak test and the line test and eveything came out fine..

Re: Question about DSL and my laptop

You answered your own question. G is much faster than B. Get a G card if the B is built in.

Re: Question about DSL and my laptop

I know the g is faster, its 54mb while the B is 11Mb. Even if it was 5.5 one way on the 11mb, I should still be able to get the 1.3mbps.

or am I just looking at this wrong?

I may plug the machine directly into the router directly to see what happens.

Not sure i understand your comment, but I was talking about plugging directly in to the Linksys hardwired and not wireless to see if my throughput changes.

Just keep the first computer that connects to ROUTER the best secure and not logged as administrator" B " will never catch up to "G " in wireless but Hard wired you will have data transfer in network much quicker than wireless forsure

Re: Question about DSL and my laptop

Roger, I know this is (way) off topic, but I saw your Sept. 2006 post regarding the En-Lure lures you purchased. I was wondering what your feedback is on their quality ... I'm a bit suspicous about the quality of the hook. Any feedback you'd provide will be much appreciated. Please reply to jv@goldcitybassmasters.org.

Thanks and have a blessed day!

Re: Question about DSL and my laptop

Mrearl, I have not been able to give a good review of these as I ordered in sept and my effective season is over until at least may (cabin season).

I did order a bunch for my sons for xmas though. The hooks seem to be fine. My son had tried them in the water in the fall and the action was as expected, but whether they catch fish is another story. I won't know that until I can get some time in the water with them.

For the cost it can't be beat. My sons could put me in the poor house if I had to supply them with Rapalas. Their young, ambitious fishers, and lose a lot of lures. Bad combo.

Thanks for the feedback Rogerwa ... I sure feel for you buddy if your season doesn't begin until May. Glad to be in the South for sure. Take care. 8)
