Sounds like your describing a tach plug used in some applications. As for the hour meter you would need to tap the power leades thru diodes to the stator side of the charging bridge rectifier.

I've got the same plug on my Merc Control and if I'm correct, it's to plug a Tachometer.

As for your gauges, do you have a "power" switch for the console? On my console, I have a switch that sends power to the console so the lights work, the bilge pump works, ect.

Jericho, if you go to a merc dealer that has been around awhile, you can get a wire harness that plugs into that socket on your mercontrol...3 wires in the harness, a positive[+] a negative[-] and a tachometer sensor wire...the + and - can be used for a dashboard mounted hourmeter, or other guages...it is 'key on' power.......

yeh looks like a tach connector to me to :D

Also isn't an hours meter supposed to check how long the motor has been running or how long you have been on the boat?

And yep i am buying a console thing for my little 14.4 foot boat! So you saying i really should just let the hours meter when i press the switch? So when power from the battery is being used the hour meter at the same time.

Or maybe i hook up a switch re routing the + line from the battery to my dashboard and then goes back to my motor so when the button is switched the battery is activated and it THEN starts the hour meter automatically and then with the switch being on i can also turn on my motor as power will be feeding to my motor and console switchbaord for my lights, radio, speedo lights, fish monitor, etc. :)

Thanks
