Question on exhaust manifold

Here is the deal, i have 2 real small cracks on the water side of the exhaust manifold, so i pulled it off so i could test it to see if there were cracks inside that would leak water into the engine, before i pulled it off i pulled the end cap to drain any remaining water out, and it was completly full of water and there are no signs of water in the exhaust ports at all, would i be safe in the thinking that there are no cracks that can cause engine problems.

Thanks for the input.

P.S. i used jb weld on the outside cracks and it sealed up the leak and there are no more external leaking.

Re: Question on exhaust manifold

Just think, you now have $3 worth of JB Weld protecting $3000 worth of engine to save spending $300 (or whatever a new 3.0L manifold costs) for a new manifold that you will also have to replace when you buy the $3000 engine.
Do you feel lucky ???????

Thanks Don,
I am gonna due the acetone test on the manifold, i was just hoping for the best that it is not cracked internally.

Re: Question on exhaust manifold

Forget the JB Weld When the engine heats up and the manifolds get hot, it will lose a lot of strength.

If the acetone test satisfies you that the manifold is salvageable, take it to a welding shop that knows how to weld cast iron (It can be done by a knowledgeable welder, but requires heating the entire part, using the right rod and voltage, and then slow cooling the part.) Still in this economy a welder would likely be glad for the work.

JB Weld is great stuff for many applications, on an exhaust manifold . . . it will leak sooner or later.

Re: Question on exhaust manifold

save your engine and yourself from a future headache, exhaust manifolds don't last forever, it cracked, consider yourself lucky that you found it and buy a new one.
