It is a 79 omc 400 stringer. I have the drive off and I am trying to remove the steering cable from the intermediate housing. My manual says that there is a retaining screw in the drum that has to be removed. But the picture that it shows has the screw behind the drum which is against the housing. Trying to get it ready for a floor replacement. Any help would be appreciated.

once the skinny clip and plastic shield is slid out of the way, have a friend rotate the wheel, the screw will come around.
slot screwdriver.

Once the screw is out, the shaft slides out the back and the drum assembly comes out.

Keep track of spacers and shims.

When putting back together be careful not to overtorque the drum screw. It just tightens into aluminum.
