i was wanting to make sure i was doing the test right on my 75 ,1150. i followed the directions and did not get any spark, which would indicate i have a bad switch box. what im not sure of is how touching the black wird from the distrbutor can cause the coil to fire when all wires are diconnected from the distributor. could someone please explain before i start ordering $400.00 parts. thanks

Re: question on switchbox test

wire disconencted from the distrib BUT 2 of theirs connector on the switchbox jumped (white and brun i think) that simulate de distributor s job

first of all..did you make sure you had 12V on the red AND the white (when the switchis on) these are on the other side of the switchbox ?
if you dont the reste of the test is useless

im not a mecanic but i ve been going thrue these test fro 2 weeks now
the mercury switch. the switchbox, the coil, and the trigger test

i did buy a switchbox for nothing... i was doing this switchbox test with a spare coil wire THAT WAS NOT good :-( it had to conectivity
i ended up with a brand new switch box and of coure it s not refundable
where are you from ?

Re: question on switchbox test

i am in virginia, i have power on my red and white wires, i did the test exactly according to directions, i just dont see how the black wire from the distributor causes the coil to fire when the distributor isnt hooked to anything.

Re: question on switchbox test

I believe you are misreading the test. You should be touching the black terminal on the switchbox to ground, to simulate the distributor.

thanks chris, that makes alot more since than touching the wire, i will try that. if the switch box pases does that mean its the trigger.

Re: question on switchbox test

As Clams says in the switchbox test, "if it won't fire at all, suspect the trigger".
