When Assembling The Lower Unit Back On My Mercruiser I Cant Seem To Get The Waterpipe Lined Up Correctly. No Water Coming Into The Motor. Seems Almost Impossible To Get It Lined Up Right. Im Wondering Why U Couldnt Just Use Some Hose/tubing From Lowes That Would Be Easier To Connect. Then I Could Connect Both Ends And Put The Lower Assembly Back On And Know For Sure That Water Is Gonna Get Thru. Any Thoughts On This. Seems Alot Easier Than Trying To Get It Lined Up With The Factory Parts. Sorry About Upper Case. Please Give Me Some Feedback.

There is a guide tube that goes on the pump housing. The long copper tube should go right into this specially designed, slightly larger diameter tube.

Double check that you have all the parts and that the long tube is in the correct position that will cause it to line up (points close to the drive shaft)

The system is very good, most manufactures use the same system.

Take a few deep breaths and look at the challenge with fresh eyes.

The best thing you could do is turn off the cap locks and repost it so it can be read and understood.
Year and Type of outdrive would be helpful.
Sounds to me like you have a guide tube missing.

Re: Questions About Waterpipe, Help!!!

K. i had already apologized for the cap locks. didnt want to retype it all. anyway, i am not missing any pieces. i took it apart myself. i have also downloaded the service manual and i have the correct parts. just seems very difficult to lift lower assembly on and make sure that piping stays together. my question is -- do u think there would be a problem with using tubing from lowes with a little extra slack so i can connect both ends then attcah lower assembly. the factory piping is two pieces and i think it is coming undone during assembly. any opinions on using the tubing? what could go wrong? im prolly gonna try it in the morning just want some input. thanks in advance. lower case this time.................:D

Well, without that info we cant tell what drive system you have.
There is no "piping" on a outdrive, so we cant figure out what your asking.
A plastic guide tube goes on top of the water pump, the coppper connecting tube just slpis in and guides itself into the body.
So, we dont have a clue to what your asking "Attitude Boy"

I think you over reacted and just lost one of your best sources for Mercruisers. On top of that ---it was someone willing to give you free help.

Re: Questions About Waterpipe, Help!!!

the copper tube should be inserted into the upper housing when connecting two halves of the drive. the guide tube fits into the water pump housing and is white to make it easier to see when the upper is being lowered onto the bottom half. as you lower the upper onto the lower look through the exhaust passage and slowly allow the copper tube to slide into the guide tube then get the splined end of the drive shaft to enter the upper housing. line up the studs with the holes for reconnecting the halves then rotate the splined shaft by the u-joints and the top will pop down onto the lower. a little grease in the rubber grommet on the weater pump housing helps the copper tube slide in easier too, also grease on the slpined shaft coming from lower too.

hope this helps
