Re: questions for experts. im sure its somewhere in this forum but i am lazy.
Jimmy, the moderators like to see people search the threads for their answers before starting a new thread covering the same topic. Personally, I think the duplicate threads adds to the high participation level we have on iboats. But people start duplicate threads all the time, so I don't quite understand the reaction you got here. The only time I saw it before (not from the moderators) was to a poster who had a history of jerking people around. So if your record is clean, shouldn't have been a problem. iboats is normally a very friendly and helpful place. So don't get discouraged.
As to your question regarding sacrificial anodes: dissimilar metals in salt water make for a great battery. One metal gives up its electrons which flow to the other metal. Unfortunately, the metal that is giving them up degrades. To protect metal parts of your boat, anodes are made of metals that give up their electrons easier than your bat's metals. Thus the anodes degrade, not your boat. Anodes should be changed once about half their mass has been used up.
Hope this helps.
