i have had some problems with my 1986 force 125 as my other post stated my problems. this post is to ask questions on parts as i am not sure what ones i would need from the iboats store. the guy before me as i think i failed to mention ran the boat out of gas about a week before i bought it, which is my suspicion as to why i have no power. so here it goes.

I need a carb kit for it i have looked on the site and there is a lot of different kinds and i dont know what one. as they all say replaced original part # *****

Second i need plugs for it, the manual recommends surface plug Champion UL18V surface plugs. (this is not a big deal i will go to the napa or something to get these) but i wanted to buy everything together if it was possible.

and gear oil. i don't know if synthetic VS. regular oil matters for my motor. but i don't want to take the chance and cause it to seize up or something suddenly. obviously i know the difference between marine and regular oils.

and is there anything else you could think of i need to get? if so please list it and tell me the part number from iboats or wherever it is i need to buy it from, all input is appreciated. I am not new to the boating world but new to the boat owning world. i dont know if it will help but the boat is an 1986 18' bayliner with the force 125 on it.

thanks,

Mark

Re: questions on parts

Mark,

You need to pull the carb stack off and pull the float bowl off of one of the carbs. One type carb uses a bottom jet. On that model, the screw that holds the float bowl on is also the main jet. It will have a number on the flat side and a holes drilled in the center and on the sides just inside the float bowl. If you don't have this type, you have a side jet carb. Buy the rebuild kit accordingly.

The plugs are the 18's and you can get them at West Marine or Boaters World. Get the best lower oil that you can afford. Synthetic or non synthetic will both work in that model lower. The better stuff may make it last longer.

You can also go to the Mercury parts page and look for Force parts. They give you the part numbers in the list.

Don't forget to buy a Clymer manual.

Regards,

John

Re: questions on parts

First off before you do anything do a compression check and then a spark check. Plugs:call and make sure they have them at NAPA UL18v Isn't always available.Gear oil.A good grade of oil is recomended.Use any good quality oil.
