I installed new bellows, gimbal, and grease seal on my SX-M drive and had a few observations/questions.
1.The driveshaft bellows: It had the oem rubber one and it was seated at the transom housing flush with the flange. The new plastic style does not sit flush. By flush, I mean the collar where the hose clamp goes. (Where it ends and the bellows starts to become an accordion) I tried pushing it further but it kept wanting to pop in "place" it seemed to "seat" well?
2. The shift cable just goes straight into the transom, no rubber plug or sheathing. Is that normal?
3. I could not for the life of me get the plastic piece out where the hose connects to pivot housing.I took the big 1 1/8 plastic nut off and I banged on it pretty good, but stopped short of breaking it.. Is there a hidden bolt or trick to it?
4.I lined up the hole in the gimbal with the grease hole but am only getting grease shooting out between gimbal and mounting surface. I did freeze the bearing, was wondering if it needs to "de-thaw" to let grease in? I waited about an hour?
All this being said, I can't believe how easy this was. I was always so intimidated to do bellows. No more trips to get that service done!
Hope this solves my grinding noise. Like mentioned in a previous thread. The u-joints and old gimbal were like new but definitely has groaning and grinding back there when on muffs.
Thanks all!
