quick one on water pump

20 second video of engine running. the focus is the water pump which is the brass housing in center. I then move camera over to the hose bringing water to pump. seems like a lot of vibration. is this normal? it actually looks a little worse in person in my opinion.

Did you have the pump off recently? it looks like the upper hose is bouncing around as well.

What engine model and year do you have there?

Pump has not been removed recently. It is a 5.7 vortec. I believe a mercruiser.

Hum, That pump setup don't look original to me.

Volvo Penta puts a bracket with a rubber spacer in between the pump to help slow that movement. For example see item numbers 3 and 5,

I don't have a serial number. to be honest I am not 100% it is a mercruiser. I will work on that. Looks like the item number 5 from the IPB mounts to the pump to hold it steady like you said?

I am still in learning mode which is why I want to ask. When I look at it I assume the pump is basically attached to the crank shaft? This is where a harmonic balancer would be on a car engine. I know the crank shaft can't have that much play (or any at all for that matter) or the engine would self destruct. It just leaves me wondering where all the extra motion could come from.

Do marine engines have harmonic balancers?

After a quick Wikipedia read on harmonic balancers, I guess crankshaft do undergo a lot of vibrations.

Gotcha. I guess that is what the water pump is mounted to. It is just hard to tell in video. It was much clearer on my phone. I have to remember to turn phone sideways for future videos so that it will be bigger when you watch it on a computer.
