Quick question. Can I mount electric fuel pump before fuel/water sep filter?

Think I might be having a fuel pump issue.

See http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=432099

I am only getting 3.5 PSI at idle through WOT.

I have been reading that electric fuel pumps are not good at pulling fuel. They are good at pushing fuel.

Can I mount my electric fuel pump before the fuel water sep filter? It will still be within 12" of the engine.

I can mount it on the bow side engine compartment wall.

Thanks

You can read about anything you want on the internet, but that doesn't make it fact.
Marine electric fuel pumps are designed to work pulling fuel from the tank and through a fuel filter.

Ok thanks Don.

So if Im only getting 3.5 PSI then the pump is bad? Maybe wrong one?

All thats on the pump is 40700E20A and Carter on the bottom

Cant find a Carter with that exact number but I did find a Carter P-4070 that lookes exactly like the one I have.

It says they are an automotive one and it should be 5.75 PSI.

I wonder if its the same one.

Mine is mounted to the front bottom starboard side of the engine. In my OMC manual it shows canister (tube) type filters that get mounted on top of the fuel water sep filter.
