WOT should be around 5000. With boat tied to trailer you might have cavitation problems. The data plate near the carburator should tell you what WOT should be. It is stamped near the serial and model number.
Thanks, Euro. On the other thread, about the tach...... Idle set at around 700 on the tach. WOT, both on the trailer and cruising on the lake, 3500 rpm. Boat doing about 23 mph. It's a 14 ft 1976 Chrysler runabout. so, I'll keep working on the tach.
I am pulling a 16 foot blue fin aluminum boat with about 400 lbs of weight including batteries gas and myself. My 1967 chrysler 45HP will do 28.5 MPH according to the gps. It could be the prop you have on it. I would also check the throttle butterfly in the carb and verify that it is all the way open at full throttle. I dont know the weight of a chrysler runabout but my guess is it should be getting a better top end speed. I dont know much about prop pitch and size but maybe you could post what you have and someone can tell if that may be the problem. If you have not decarbed this motor you may want to do so. When I pulled my exhaust gaskets I found a bunch of carbon which was a real pain to remove. See Frequently asked questions forum for instructions on decarb.
This boat is really heavy. Fiberglass with the standard subfloor filled with foam. another floor of 1 inch plywood covered with carpet. 2 seats each about 40 lbs and decking about another 75 lbs. Then, gas, battery, etc. I was pretty proud of the 23 mph. But that was on the boat speedometer.
Cool. You are probably okay then. If motor is idling good and your hole shot is smooth dont fix what aint broke. If you have a friend with a GPS you might want to test it. I doubt the speedo on the boat is very accurate anyways.
