quick question on top speed

86 bayliner capri 1600 w/85 hp force (same year)
can't find any markings on prop to know what pitch prop i have
at WOT up on plane w/approx. 350-400#'s of people and gear...top speed on smooth water is 33-34 mph

does this sound about right?

On my prop, the markings are under the nut that secures the prop to the motor shaft. I have a 19inch on mine and I checked my speed at WOT. The speedometer showed 35-36, while the GPS showed 31-32. Since my boat is slightly bigger than yours, that might account for the slight difference in MPH. So I think that yours sounds about right.

My 16' '83 capri BR shows 41-43gps with a 19p SS MI Wheel that has a little more cup, at about 5200-5300rpm. It depends on weather and if I run synthetic gear oil or not, with just me and not much else in the boat, is an '83 85hp force. It ran that fast before I thinned and cupped the prop, but at higher rpm. I have done about all I can to make it go that fast, it is all stock otherwise but the block was replaced at some point. I painted the motor and LU, blocked the pad some, new transom, tune up, etc. Oh I did raise the motor with a 1/2" spacer guess that is not stock. It ran around 6mph slower when I got it.

I have a 97 Capri 75HP Force, I get with just me and TRIMMED OUT 37-39 mph gps..WOT 5200 rpm..So yours with 4 in it sounds good, mine won't do it with the people. Make sure your trimmed as well it should be good for 2-3 mph

Our 84 Capri 1600 with 85 hp force will do 43gps bone stock. Can't recall the pitch off exactly off hand but recall it may be a 19" and it is alum. I only have 17's and 19's don't have a tach and have owned it since new. They weigh so little they move pretty well for what they are. Back in 84 that was a hot boat and pretty fast for it's day. My BL doesn't respond near as well to trim as my I/O does.
