I just put my boat in the water last weekend after storing it indoors all last winter. It is a 1996 Caravalle fish and ski with a Mercruiser V-6 motor. After firing it up and getting up on a plane, I noticed that the trim buttons were not working. I backed off the throtle and tried again in neutral and it worked. As soon as I was back in gear and on a plane I tried it again and it didn't work. I slowed down again, put it in neutral and nothing, it didn't work at all. The trailer button that raises the motor all the way up was still working, but the next morning it was dead too. I disconnected the round three prong connector from the pump and jumped it and the motor went up and down as usual and the trim meter on the dash worked just fine. I checked the fuse at the pump and it seemed fine as well. Being as the pump worked when I jumped it I feel that it must be a electrical problem in the box. Any ideas, switch or broken wire?

"switch or broken wire?"

Yep and yep.............and/or loose or corroded connections........time to break out a voltmeter and start checking.

Sure, it's either a bad switch, or a broken wire, or a corroded connection, something came unplugged before the trim pump. ran a screw thru a wire while installing a cup holder, or mice chewed thru the wires.

Whatever, guessing won't help, as Wotknot said get the meter out and check it out.
Here is a link to the troubleshooting section in the OEM service manuals. Including wiring diagrams. Should help out the process of finding the problem.
