Re: Racks with out Tower or Pylon????

There's a guy down in Texas who rebuilt a 14' Larson, I just read his thread over the weekend. He did the same thing as is posted here with that other boat. He purchased two holders and mounted them on the side of his boat. He's really cramped for space as you can imagine with a 14' boat, but these mounts really helped him out. Not sure the cost, but definitely cheaper than getting a tower, etc.

If you look hard enough I'm sure you'll find his thread, it's a huge thread with a lot of pictures, a great read.

Those boards sure take up a lot of room, that's for sure.

That boat is really nice. Very well laid out, and very well planned.
Definetly would be nice to see it on the water.
I wish I could get the time to work on a project like that (well, I have the time, just not the patience right now).

Re: Racks with out Tower or Pylon????

Im also looking to use racks without having a tower...looks like some good ideas here Ill have to think about.

In our Caravelle there are handles in the bow with a diamter of 1". Are there any wakeboard racks that will clamp around such a small tube?

Heres a pic of what I would like to attach it to, if possible.

The clamp would have to be thin enough to fit in the space and the "prongs" would have be angles toward the outside of the boat.
ANyone know of any company that sells a rack that would work for this?

Thanks.

I have not seen any wakeboard rack that fit less than 1-3/4" tubing.
You could probably get something custom made from a fabrication shop somewhere locally.
But, one thing to think about...
What kind of metal is used in that rod? If it is thin alumminum, the continuous strain of a wakeboard rack may be to much for it and end up bending the bar pretty bad, especially if you get into some rough waters.

For more aethestic reasons, you want to try and make the rack towards to back of the boat though. Putting the rack up in the bow, especially with having to angle it like that would make sitting up there a little annoying. Plus, no one wants to walk up into the bow to grab there board to go back to the stern to put it on. Also, keeping the racks behind the driver avoids the safety hazard of having the obstruction in your line of sight while driving.

Can you get some more images of the whole boat? More full views. I can think up different ideas when I get some time.

Good points. Didnt really want to use that small handle anyway.
Ill get some more pics of the back as soon as I can.

Theres also a spot where we could place a rack but it would need a U shaped clamp becuase its not around a bar....pictures will help me in this explanation.

We also dont want to put any holes in the boat or do any drilling since well be getting a tower next season anyway...more holes than needed is...well...we dont want left over holes when we get rid of it :)
Ill post pics when I get a chance. thanks.

I think I have just what you're looking for. They fit onto your boat without any additional hardware, just a cleat. I've so far built them only for friends and relatives, but if you want I can probably help you out.
PM me about it if you're interested.

I build these for friends and relatives, nothing large scale, but if anyone's interested, I'll get you one or two. Made out of 6T aluminum, covered in rubberized non-skin surfacing. Different colors available.

Here are some pics of what I have come up with. I have not yet tried these with the boat on the water but so far I think they'll work. They might not look the best but I was more worried about function than form. There are suction cups on them but only to help keep them in place, not for support.

Neat Idea. 2 Things.

#1 what pylon setup are you using?

#2 what keeps the racks and or boards from jumping up, or poping out?

The pylon is one I made myself modeled after a few universal pylons I've seen online similar to the insanity pylon, I need to get better pics to post.
I attached bungie cords to the racks to hold the boards in place while underway. They're not in the close up pics I posted.

Ya man post up your pylon! I wanna see it, and the parts you used to make it.

found this pic on wakeworld

I don't know how I feel about placement there...I kind of think that in a hard turn, with the pull point in the middle of the boat, I could get far enough out the side to actually hit those racks with the rope.
