Radio/power amp install

Just installed a new radio/power amp in my 1986 Bayliner/85 Force (US marine). Is there anyway to increase the alternator output? Motor manual reads 7 amps...my radio pulls 2 amps...but the power amp pulls 42 amps at max. Sounds good but battery is draining. I did a search but could not find anything related...I have also ordered some books on the motor. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Radio/power amp install

Welcome to iboats, DeFeet63. :)
In short, no. And I'd advise not placing that type of demand on the windings in the stator while underway. It will cook. They are not cheap, and are a bear to get at in most cases.

But short of mounting a Leace-Nevil alternator on it, and belt-driving it,(not really practical at all) there's not much I can offer in a 'fix'.
Most outboards are limitted in this way. A dual battery, or dedicated 'AMP-only' battery may be the way to go.
