The better half gave me $120.00 for a early B-Day gift and told me to get a vhf raido and antenna for the boat. Iboats is out of the price range (unless they want to cut me a deal) Any ideas as to where to shop?

Hello Jim,

I think you will be hard pressed to find an antenna radio combination for that price range. Here is what I did, I found a $50 dollar Uniden Solara VHF on ebay, and then I purchased a $130 dollar Digital 8' antenna from Custom Marine Electronics in California. The radio is not the best on the market, but it works well. The antenna is top quality and I have no problem getting reception. Put the majority of you money into the antenna and up grade your radio next year. An I-Com 402 is a very nice little unit for around $150

The antenna advice is 100% correct! Get a good one then upgrade the radio later!

Lucky Jim
I agree also put the money in the antenna. A Shakespeare Galaxy is another Great Antenna.
Antenna make all the difference.
