Since I am new to all this stuff TD, how did you come to determine your engine was too high to begin with? Did the pontoon operate in a certain why that made you believe the engine was too high/low?

My boat wants to make a right hand turn & I have to hold lots of "left hand" pressure to keep it going in a straight line. I'm going to adjust the trim tab & see what it does then. I can go to the engine itself & turn it back & forth fairly easily & was wondering if that is indicating some type of problem with the steering or is that normal? I don't see any cracks or bad places in the sterring cable. Other then the turning problem my boat seems to drive ok at different speeds.

Re: Raise motor 3 1/2 inches

i had a problem with water coming up in front of the motor, this indicates the motor had too much foot/leg in the water. 3 1/2 got me too high as i ventalated, so i drop it 1 1/2 this morning.

your steering problem is called torque steer, the wheel wants to turn to the right, move the back of the tab to the right. do not loose the screw. all you have to do is loosen it in shallow water, move it, and retighten. it may take several tries to get it right.

mine i was dead on, can turn the wheel loose and just cruise.

I like the jackplate TD..:)
That motor looked like it cleaned up nice too!

Are going to give the tubes an acid bath? It would make that boat look about new.

Re: Raise motor 3 1/2 inches

Thanks for the information about the engine height & the torque steer problem. I'll have to check mine to see if I am having that problem when I get it back into the water. I can fix the trim tab pretty easliy as I have it out on blocks right now doing the restore. I appreciate all the information & help from all you guys as I am learning a lot.

Where did you find the tanks? I'm looking for one to do the same thing, placing it on the back like you did. what did you use to strap it down, did you use one or two straps? The cheapest I found was $129 (new), but when I got it, the fuel cap did not fit easily with out cross threading and the pick up tube did not allow me to attach the hose connector, I sent it back, it was a Moller. Do you have the same issue with the fuel cap not fitting correctly?
I guess boating parts are easier too obtain where there is real water.

Re: Raise motor 3 1/2 inches

i found it on craigslist here, the guy has another one. $40.00. it is a moller, i loosened the pick up tube raised it, and put my fuel connection on, then reinstalled the pick up tube. they make tank tie down straps, as a kit. it is designed for 3 straps, but i just used 2 that go across the tank. i think size would cause shipping to be prohibitive. i thought about buying the other tank, but it already rides low in the stern, and adding another 150 or so pounds i don't want to do.

i'm going to see how often i use the livewell, if not much, may move the big fuel tank infront of the console.

ya, figured!. I see there are more boating related things in Florida then here in Iowa!, no one sells boating things here ( Heck Craigslist is very short on boats stuff). for $40, if its the same size, even with shipping, it may not be too bad, buy it PM me and I'll buy it off you. ( I'll have to figure the weight, last tank got ( same one new-it was $20.00 to ship, so that's still better then a new one!)

From seeing the size of the tank on your boat, (in the other thread) it Looks like you could go weeks without filling up! . Right now I have 4-6 gal. metal tanks which are under the back bench seat. But since I will be replacing the bench, the new seat don't have ventilation, so that's why I want to place the tank at the back.
